Description

The culmination of arduous efforts by a couple passionate about fine wine, Murielle Andraud and Jean-Luc Thunevin, Château Valandraud started out with the purchase of a 0.6 hectare plot of vines in a small valley in Saint-Emilion, located between Pavie-Macquin and La Clotte. Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud gradually acquired several other plots or estates and the chateau now has a total of 8.88 hectares in Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse in the Saint-Emilion appellation.

The vineyard is a mix if various grape varieties : 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Manual harvest with grape sorting by hand, followed by a densimetric sorting by Tribaie upon the harvest arrival in our bioclimatic cellar.

After inspiring many budding winemakers and leading to the emergence of "garage wine" movement, Château Valandraud was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé status in the 2012 Saint-Emilion classification, just 21 years after its creation.

After their stunning success in producing red Bordeaux wine, the owners have added white Bordeaux wine to their production.

Virginie de Valandraud 2020 with deep purple-black in color, charges out of the gate with bold baked plums, boysenberries and blackberry pie scents, followed by hints of mocha, cedar chest, clove oil and dried Provence herbs. The full-bodied, oak-laced palate is rich and concentrated, the dense black fruits countered by wonderful freshness and plush tannins, finishing long and spicy.
