Chateau Cheval Blanc is located in the Saint-Emilion production area on the right bank of Bordeaux, France. In the Saint-Emilion ranking winery competition in 1955, it won the top first-class winery A, and its counterparts are Chateau Angelus and Chateau Ausone. The vineyards of Chateau Pavie and Chateau Cheval Blanc used to be part of the famous Chateau Figeac, and then they were separated to become a winery independently. It is the longest winery operated by the same family in the Saint-Emilion production area.
In 1998, Bernard Arnauld, the president of the world’s largest boutique group, and Baron Frere, one of the largest financial families in Europe, joined forces to buy the winery out of their love for wine, and hired the well-known sweet liquor winery Chateau d'Yquem to manage it. Pierre Lurton manages Chateau Cheval Blanc.
================
Le Petit Cheval 2021 offers a charming fragrance of iodine, oyster shell, cherries, cedar and incense. Good mid-weight flavours on the palate; quite dark and earthy, with a nervous tension. The tannins just seem slightly rustic compared to usual. 60% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc. Representing 13% of the crop.
