Château Palmer was purchased by Englishman Charles Palmer in 1814 and named Château de Gascq. Soon after, the name of the winery was changed to Château Palmer in honor of its founder. Château Palmer's vineyards cover approximately 52 hectares on the banks of the Graves River in the Margaux region. The soil of the vineyard is very diverse, consisting mainly of gravel, sand and clay, which provides the grapes with excellent drainage and moisture retention. The main red grape varieties grown at the winery include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Among them, Merlot plays an important role in the winery's wines, giving them elegance and complexity.
Château Palmer's wines are renowned for their elegance, finesse and richness. These wines often display complex aromas of black fruits, florals, vanilla and minerality. They have soft tannins and an elegant mouthfeel, showing good balance and long aging potential. The wines of Château Palmer are often hailed as classics from the Margaux region.
Château Palmer is recognized as one of the finest chateaux in the Bordeaux region, and its wines often achieve high praise and exalted status. It is considered a symbol of the Margaux region and represents the elegance and excellence of the region. Château Palmer's wines are extremely popular on the international market and are highly sought after by wine lovers and collectors.
=====================
2020 Chateau Palmer shows the hallmark balance and silk of its terroir. Aromas open to intense black fruits - cassis, black cherry and ripe plum - layered with violets, cedar, graphite and subtle black-truffle earthiness. On the palate it is powerful yet refined: dense, polished fruit wrapped in silky, well-integrated tannins and bright mineral verve that keeps the wine focused. The oak is beautifully melded after élevage in large foudres and barrels, producing a long, savoury finish.
