Chapelle de Potensac 2018

The north of the Médoc experienced a generally rainy and mild winter, then becoming cold from mid-March, leading to a late but homogeneous budburst, followed by a strong vegetative growth. The hot and dry summer accelerated the ripening of the grapes, the alternation of cool nights and hot days developed their richness while maintaining their freshness. This 2018 offers a ripe, very expressive fruit and a particularly velvety tannic structure. Elegant, luscious and fresh, with intense aromas of black fruit, this is a truly great vintage that has taken advantage of the exceptionally favourable weather conditions.

History

Château Potensac has a long family history. Indeed, this estate belongs to the Delon family since a very long time and has always been passed down from generation to generation by the women of the family. Today, the estate is run by Jean-Hubert Delon, who keeps it from his paternal grandmother, Georgette Liquard.

Château Potensac is generally recognized as one of the major growths of the Médoc appellation. Moreover, it is the only one, at the classification of Crus Bourgeois of 2003 of the Médoc appellation, to have been classified Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. La Chapelle de Potensac was created and released by Jean-Hubert Delon in 2002. This elegant second wine made with respect for tradition has a very good balance based on roundness and freshness.

Tasting Note:

JAMES SUCKLING 91/100

Blackberry, mushroom and earthy notes on the nose. It is full-bodied with elegant tannins and a savory, juicy texture in the mouth, leading to a flavorful finish. Lightly juicy. A tiny bit hollow in the middle palate now, but nicely done. Better after 2022, when it will have filled in. (January 2021)

DECANTER / JANE ANSON 88/100

This shows attractive raspberry and redcurrant fruits as it opens and soft tannins that are well integrated, while the acidity is pretty fresh. (November 2020) THE WINE CHRONICLES / PANOS KAKAVIATOS Special mention for the second wine, Chapelle de Potensac, which is so fun to drink. Bright fruit indeed. (November 2020) J

EB DUNNUCK 90/100 Looking first at the second wine of the estate, the 2018 Chapelle De Potensac has an already complex nose of red and black currants, green tobacco, cedarwood, and spring flowers. This carries to an endearing, supple, seamless Médoc with light tannins, a rounded, balanced mouthfeel, and a great finish. Want a classic Bordeaux you don't have to wait a decade on’ Give this beauty a whirl. (March 2021)
